Eating aliments with good nutritional value is important to every person's health. One of the best ways to protect and promote your health is to eat a balanced diet comprise of good nutritious products. What makes a good food, you may ask? Well, a good food for the body should be high on vitamins and minerals and low on saturated fat, chemicals, additives and antibiotics. Below are some healthy food tips, which you can follow to have a more balanced diet.

Healthy Food Tips

Eat a variety of nutrient-rich foods. An important thing you should know is that our bodied require more than 50 different nutrients and there is one single food supply them all. What you need to do is build a diet to include many healthy foods: bread and other whole-grain products; fruits; vegetables; dairy products; and meat, poultry, fish and other protein foods. You do not need to eat all of them every day, but you should include these aliments as frequent as you can in your weekly diet.

Another tip is to eat plenty of whole grains, fruits and vegetables. These fresh aliments are the richest in vitamins, minerals and nutrients. Forget about frozen vegetables and fruits. Buy as many fresh assortments as you can find. There are a lot of healthy fruits and vegetables (avocado, carrots, cauliflower, garlic, parsley, potatoes, spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, tofu, beans, sea vegetables just to mention only a few of the healthy vegetables and apples, bananas, all of the citric fruits, plums, watermelon, to mention some fruits you should eat more). Also be sure to include in your meals fish and seafood (a great source for omega 3 essential fatty acids and vitamins: cod, shrimp, tuna, and scallops). Nuts, seeds and grains also contain a lot of proteins and you should replace some of the fat meat with these aliments. Incorporate more Mediterranean products in your diet (olive oil, artichokes, basil pesto, and eggplant).

Be careful to limit your calorie intake to what you need for one day. If you consume more calories than your body needs, the extra calories will be converted to fat and it will be harder to burn them.

You should pay attention to how you cook your food: avoid deep-fried foods. Instead, choose food that has been cooked by a healthy cooking method (such as boiling). A healthier cooking method will also preserve the vitamins in the food.

Also, avoid trans fats and saturated fats (trans fats are mostly found in hydrogenated oils, and saturated fat is the fat found in meat). Specialists recommend limiting the amount of red meat you eat and eat lighter meat (such as fish or chicken). Limit your intake of pop and other sugary drinks, as they contain huge amounts of sugar and will badly damage your health. Try to eat three regular meals a day and avoid snacking in-between (you can replace snacks with water or some fruits).

But no diet can replace physical exercises. The worst case scenario is to eat unhealthy foods and live a sedentary life. Move a lot, walk as many times as you can if you do not have the time to go a gym. It will burn the surplus calories in your body and keep your general body tonus up.
